Made in Trieste, Italy circa 1840, this is the finest cello by Giovanni Dollenz that I have played. Under Raphael Wallfisch’s expert bow, its generous tone envelopes the ear with a warm, rich timbre. The varnish combines reds and golds to create a multi-coloured rainbow of flames on the back and ribs. Offered for sale with the certificate of authenticity by Charles Beare.
